What E02 actually means

The machine hasn't taken in enough water in the time it expects, so it has halted the cycle.

E02 is "lack of water" — the control board starts to fill, watches the water level, and if it doesn't reach the expected point within its allowed window it abandons the cycle rather than run the drum dry. You'll usually see it early on, before the drum has started turning properly, and the machine will sit there with little or no water in the glass. It's a supply problem far more often than a fault inside the machine.

What E02 looks like on a Montpellier washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier washer dryer, E02 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle
  • Overfilling, or won't stop filling
  • Stops with water still inside
  • Fills and drains over and over
  • No function at all

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • The cold water tap behind the machine is turned off or only part open
  • A kinked, trapped or crushed fill hose
  • A blocked filter in the inlet hose or at the valve, usually silt or limescale
  • Genuinely low mains water pressure, or work being done on the supply
  • A failed water inlet valve or pressure sensor on the machine itself

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the cold water tap feeding the machine is fully open — a tap that has been nudged shut behind the machine is the single most common cause we find.
  2. Look along the fill hose for kinks or crush points, particularly where the machine has been pushed back against the wall.
  3. Run a nearby cold tap to confirm you have normal mains pressure and it isn't a supply issue affecting the whole house.
  4. Switch off at the socket for a minute, then power up and restart a short programme to clear the code.
  5. If you have a washing machine tap with a filter screen you can reach by hand, turn the tap off first and check it isn't furred up — no tools.

Which Montpellier models show E02

E02 means the same thing on all 8 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Can I fix Montpellier E02 myself?

There are 5 checks you can safely do yourself first.

  1. Check the cold water tap feeding the machine is fully open — a tap that has been nudged shut behind the machine is the single most common cause we find.
  2. Look along the fill hose for kinks or crush points, particularly where the machine has been pushed back against the wall.
