What E04 actually means

The sensor that tells the fridge when to defrost has stopped giving a sensible reading, so the appliance has flagged a fault with the fridge compartment's defrost sensor.

Your fridge freezer runs a heater periodically to melt frost off the cooling coil, and a small temperature probe on that coil tells the control board when the ice has cleared. When the board sees a reading from that probe that is out of range \u2014 or no reading at all \u2014 it logs E04. Cooling often carries on for a while, but with no reliable feedback the defrost cycle can't be managed properly, so frost builds up on the coil and the fridge side gradually loses its ability to hold temperature.

Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute and back on \u2014 an occasional one-off reading will clear and not return.
Check both doors are closing and sealing properly; a door left ajar or a sticky seal drags warm, damp air in and makes frosting far worse.
Look inside the fridge compartment for visible frost or ice on the back wall, and clear anything packed tightly against it that blocks airflow.
Note whether the fridge side is still cooling and how it behaves \u2014 that's genuinely useful information for whoever attends.
