What E10 actually means

On most Montpellier fridge freezers E10 means the control panel thinks a button is stuck down, though on some models the same code is used to say the fridge side isn't getting cold enough.

The fault covers two different display systems. On the boards described, E10 is a "long press" fault — the electronics have seen one of the touch or push buttons held in continuously and locked the panel out, shown as two temperature icons or gear lights blinking together. On other models the user manual lists E10 as a fridge compartment high temperature warning, triggered when the fridge sensor stays warmer than it should, typically after a long power cut or a load of warm food. The appliance normally keeps cooling in both cases; it is flagging the fault rather than shutting down.

Warm or hot food loaded in, or the door left open or not sealing properly
Food or packaging blocking the cold air duct holes or sitting against the fridge sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Look at which icons are flashing together — if it is the two fridge/freezer temperature icons blinking as a pair, treat it as a panel fault; if the fridge simply feels warm, treat it as a temperature warning
Check nothing is leaning on or resting against the control panel, including a door shelf, a magnet or a fridge front cover
Wipe the display panel with a barely damp cloth and dry it — sticky residue over a button can hold it in
Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute and back on; the fault themselves advise a power cycle to clear the panel
If the fridge is warm, set a colder setting or Super Cool and keep the door shut until it pulls down
Move food away from the air duct holes at the back of the fridge compartment so cold air can circulate
Check the door seal is clean and closing flat all the way round, and throw out anything that has clearly gone off
