What E00 actually means

The fridge freezer has lost contact with, or isn't getting a proper response from, its automatic ice maker.

On these Montpellier models the control board watches the ice maker and flags a fault when it doesn't run or report back as expected. Cooling itself is unaffected — the compartments keep working normally — so what you'll notice is no ice being made, or the ice maker sitting idle, alongside the code on the display. The fault points at the wiring connections between the ice maker and the main control board first, then the ice maker motor, and the board itself only as a last resort.

What E00 looks like on a Montpellier fridge freezer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Montpellier fridge freezer, E00 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Fridge freezer door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Loose or dirty plug connection between the ice maker and the control board
  • Ice jammed in the mould or the ice bin, stalling the mechanism
  • Water supply turned off, kinked or frozen so no ice ever forms
  • Failed ice maker motor
  • Fault on the main control board (least common)

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Look in the ice bin and clear out any lumps of ice that have frozen together or wedged against the mechanism — by hand, don't lever anything
  2. If the machine is plumbed in, check the water tap is on and the supply pipe behind the appliance isn't kinked or crushed against the wall
  3. Make sure the freezer door is closing fully and the seal isn't held off by a drawer or packaging — warm air getting in causes ice to clump and stall the mechanism
  4. Switch off at the wall for a minute, then back on, and see whether the code clears

Which Montpellier models show E00

E00 means the same thing on all 2 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
