What E07 actually means

The fridge freezer has lost a sensible reading from the sensor that measures the room temperature around it.

E07 points to a fault in the ambient temperature sensor circuit — the part that tells the appliance how warm or cold the room is. The control board uses that reading to decide how hard to run the compressor and when to defrost, so with a bad signal it flags the fault. Cooling often carries on, but the running pattern and energy use can go astray until it's fixed.

What usually causes it

  • Faulty ambient temperature sensor
  • Loose or corroded connection at the sensor plug
  • Fault on the display control board where the sensor connects
  • Damaged sensor wiring inside the cabinet
  • Main control board failure

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the appliance off at the wall for a minute, then switch it back on — some codes clear if it was a one-off glitch
  2. Check the appliance isn't in an unusually hot or cold spot (garage, next to an oven, in direct sun) which can affect readings
  3. Make sure the doors are closing fully and food is not blocking the seals

When to call someone

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above. We cover Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire, and it's £66 including VAT for an engineer to come out and diagnose it — £84 in total if it's repaired on the visit with no parts needed. Any parts needed are quoted on site before we fit them — you decide. Every repair carries a 90-day workmanship guarantee.

Outside our area? The explanation above still stands — take it to a local engineer and tell them the code. Knowing it saves them time and you money.
