What E08 actually means

The fridge freezer has decided the mains voltage reaching it is too low to run safely, so it has flagged a supply fault rather than risk the compressor.

On these Montpellier models the control board watches the incoming mains voltage, and if it drops below roughly 170 volts it puts E08 on the display instead of continuing to cool. It is a protective alarm — the board would rather stop the compressor than let it try to start on a weak supply, because that is what burns out motor windings. The alarm can also be raised if the board's own voltage sensing has gone out of tolerance, in which case the supply is perfectly fine and the fault is on the electronics.
