What E06 actually means
The display panel and the fridge freezer's main control board have stopped talking to each other.
E06 is a communication fault. The display board sends and receives signals to the main circuit board behind the appliance, and when those messages stop arriving correctly the panel shows E06. Cooling may carry on, but you lose reliable control and temperature display, so it needs looking at rather than ignoring.
What usually causes it
- A loose or partly unplugged connector between the display and the main board
- Damp or corrosion on the wiring plug behind the display
- A faulty display panel
- A faulty main control board
- Damaged or chafed wiring in the door hinge or cabinet run
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Switch the appliance off at the wall socket, leave it for two or three minutes, then switch it back on — this clears a one-off communication glitch
- Check the plug and socket are sound and the appliance isn't running through a dodgy extension lead
- Make sure the fridge isn't sitting in a damp or very cold spot such as an unheated garage, which can upset the electronics
- Note whether the fridge and freezer are still holding temperature, and move food to another appliance if they aren't

This one usually needs an engineer once you have tried the checks above.
