New World E08 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E08 actually means

The dryer has decided the mains voltage reaching it isn't steady or isn't within the range it will run on, so it has stopped the cycle.

On the heat pump New World dryers the control board watches the incoming supply, and E08 is logged when that voltage wanders outside what the compressor and control electronics will tolerate. The fault has the engineer measure the voltage at the socket and expects to see between 170 and 265 V — if the supply checks out at the socket, the fault is on the dryer's main board rather than in your house wiring.

What E08 looks like on a New World tumble dryer

What usually causes it

The main control board misreading the supply — the most common finding once the socket tests fine
A poor connection at the socket, plug or an extension lead feeding the dryer
Genuinely unstable or low mains voltage, sometimes only when other heavy appliances are running
Damaged or chafed internal wiring between the supply and the board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Switch the dryer off at the wall for a minute, then turn it back on and restart the programme — a one-off dip in the supply can log the code without anything being wrong with the machine.
If the dryer is on an extension lead, adaptor or multi-way block, plug it straight into a wall socket instead. Heat pump dryers don't like anything that adds resistance to the supply.
Try a different wall socket on a different circuit if you have one nearby, and note whether the code still appears.
Notice whether it happens when something else heavy is running — a shower, oven or kettle — as that points at the supply rather than the dryer.
