What E13 actually means

The display and control panel has stopped talking to the machine's main circuit board, so the dryer no longer knows what you've asked it to do.

On these New World washer dryers the buttons and display sit on their own board, which passes your programme selection to the main control board and receives progress information back. E13 is raised when those two boards stop exchanging data properly — the main board waits for a reply from the display and doesn't get one. The machine halts rather than run blind, so you'll usually see a dead or frozen panel, a cycle that won't start, or one that stops part-way with the code up.

What E13 looks like on a New World tumble dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World tumble dryer, E13 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening
  • Programme won't start
  • Machine tripping the electrics
  • E13 flashing on the display
  • Beeping and showing E13

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A loose or partly unseated ribbon/plug between the display board and the main control board
  • A brief electrical glitch or supply interruption that has locked the boards out of step
  • Damp or condensation around the control panel connections
  • A failed display (LCD) board
  • A failed main control board

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall socket, leave it for a minute, then switch back on — a genuine one-off communication glitch will often clear and not return.
  2. Try selecting a programme again from cold; note whether the panel lights and responds at all, as that helps whoever attends.
  3. If the machine has been recently moved or plumbed in, check nothing is pressing hard against the back of the fascia or the top of the cabinet.

Which New World models show E13

E13 means the same thing on all 12 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
