New World E18 tumble dryer: what it means & what to check

What E18 actually means

The dryer has detected a problem with its brushless drive motor or the electronics that control it, so it has stopped rather than trying to turn the drum.

New E18 is a BLDC failure — BLDC being the brushless direct-current motor that drives the machine, and the control card that runs it. The board watches what the motor is doing and compares it with what it asked for; when the two do not agree, or the motor card reports a fault back, the cycle is abandoned and E18 is displayed. The manufacturer marks this one as a fault that needs an authorised engineer rather than something the user can clear.

What E18 looks like on a New World tumble dryer

What usually causes it

A failed or failing brushless drive motor
A fault on the motor control card that drives it
A loose or damaged plug between the motor and its control card
Damage to the board from a power surge or moisture ingress
Something jamming the drum so the motor cannot turn freely

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall socket for a minute, then switch back on and start a cycle — this clears a one-off glitch, and if the code returns straight away it is a genuine fault.
Take the load out and check nothing has fallen in and jammed the drum; turn the drum by hand and feel whether it moves freely.
Check the load was not packed in tight — an overpacked drum makes the motor work against more resistance than it should.
