What E11 actually means
The main control board has lost contact with the separate control card that runs the drying side of the machine.
On these New World washer dryers the drying functions are managed by their own electronic card, which reports back to the main board. E11 is logged when that conversation breaks down — the main board sends its instructions and gets nothing usable in return, so it abandons the cycle rather than run the heater and drum blind. It is listed as a code intended for engineers rather than owners, so seeing it on the display generally means the machine has flagged something it cannot recover from on its own.
What E11 looks like on a New World tumble dryer
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a New World tumble dryer, E11 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Not drying
- Blowing cold air
- Clothes still damp at the end
- Takes hours to dry
- Stops after a few minutes
- Finishes far too early
- No function at all
- Dead — nothing lights up
Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.
What usually causes it
- A loose or corroded plug between the main board and the dryer control card
- A damaged or chafed connecting harness inside the machine
- A failed dryer control card
- A fault on the main control board itself
- Moisture or heat damage to the connections behind the control panel
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the machine off at the wall, leave it a minute, then switch back on and try a short drying programme — a one-off communication glitch will sometimes clear
- Note whether washing programmes still run normally and only drying fails; that is useful information for the engineer
Which New World models show E11
E11 means the same thing on all 12 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
