Teknix E08 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What E08 actually means

The machine has decided there is too much water inside it and has shut the cycle down to stop it overflowing.

Teknix lists E08 as a water protective level error — the control board has seen the water level pass the safety point it is allowed to reach and has cut the fill, usually draining out and refusing to carry on. On these washer dryers it tends to show up during filling or partway through a wash rather than at the end, and once it has latched the machine will not run a cycle through until the cause is cleared. Teknix's own advice for this one is to call service, which tells you they expect the fault to be inside the machine rather than something the owner sets right.

What E08 looks like on a Teknix washer dryer

What usually causes it

Water level sensing (pressure system) reading wrongly, so the machine thinks it is overfilled
Blocked or split pressure hose to the level sensor
Water inlet valve letting water through when it should be shut
A drain hose fitted too low, letting the machine siphon and refill itself
Control board fault misreading the level signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and see whether the code returns on a fresh cycle
Turn the water supply tap off and watch for a while — if water keeps trickling into the drum with the machine off, the fill valve is passing and needs an engineer
Check the drain hose is at the correct height and not pushed too far down the standpipe, which can siphon water back and forth
Make sure the drain hose is not kinked or squashed behind the machine
Clean the pump filter at the bottom front and clear anything caught in it
