What F13 actually means

The machine cannot confirm the door is locked, so it refuses to start the cycle.

Before a Teknix washer dryer will take on water it has to lock the porthole door and get a signal back from the door interlock confirming it is shut and latched. F13 means that confirmation never arrived, so the programme halts rather than running with a door it cannot prove is secure. The manual's own advice is to run the programme for around 20 seconds and then release the door, which effectively asks the lock to cycle again.

What F13 looks like on a Teknix washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Teknix washer dryer, F13 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine door won't open
  • Door won't lock or click shut
  • Door lock light flashing
  • Door stuck shut with the load inside
  • Won't start even with the door closed
  • No function at all
  • Dead — nothing lights up
  • Lights flashing and nothing happening

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Door not pushed firmly enough to engage the catch
  • Washing trapped in the door seal holding the door slightly proud
  • Worn or sticking door catch/striker so the latch no longer seats
  • Faulty door interlock that no longer sends the 'locked' signal
  • Wiring or control board fault at the interlock

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Open the door fully, check nothing is caught in the seal, and close it with a firm push until you hear it latch
  2. Take out a couple of items if the drum is packed tight against the door
  3. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then power up and try a fresh programme
  4. Start a programme, let it run about 20 seconds, then release the door as the manual suggests, and restart

Which Teknix models show F13

F13 means the same thing on all 3 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
