What E05 actually means

The machine has decided there is too much water inside it and has shut the cycle down to stop it overflowing.

Teknix lists E05 on these washer dryers as a water protective level error — the control board believes the level in the drum has gone past the safe limit and cuts the cycle rather than carry on filling or heating. You'll usually find it stops mid-programme with an unusually full drum, and it may try to drain on its own. The advice for this one is to call for service rather than attempt a fix, which tells you it is normally an internal fault rather than something in the plumbing.

What E05 looks like on a Teknix washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Teknix washer dryer, E05 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Machine not draining
  • Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
  • Stops mid-cycle full of water
  • Standing water in the bottom
  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • A water inlet valve that keeps letting water through when it should be shut
  • A faulty water level (pressure) sensor giving the control board a false reading
  • A blocked or split pressure sensor hose inside the machine
  • A control board fault misreading the level
  • Water not draining away, so the level never drops back

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Turn the machine off at the wall for a minute, then back on, to see whether the code clears on a fresh cycle
  2. Clean out the pump filter at the bottom front and check nothing is trapped in it
  3. Check the drain hose isn't kinked, crushed behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe
  4. Turn the water off at the tap and see whether the drum keeps filling — if it does, leave the tap off and get it looked at

Which Teknix models show E05

E05 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.
