Teknix F03 washer dryer: what it means & what to check

What F03 actually means

The machine has tried to pump the water out of the drum, failed to get rid of it in time, and has stopped the cycle with the drum still wet.

Teknix uses F03 as the drainage fault on these washer dryers. The control board expects the water level to drop once the drain pump runs; when it doesn't, the programme halts where it stands — usually just before or during the spin — and you're left with a tub of water and clothes that never spun. On a washer dryer this also blocks the drying stage, since the machine won't move on with water sitting in the tub.

What F03 looks like on a Teknix washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Teknix washer dryer, F03 usually shows up as one or more of these:

Machine not draining
Water left in the drum at the end of the cycle
Stops mid-cycle full of water
Standing water in the bottom
Overfilling, or won't stop filling

What usually causes it

Pump filter blocked with lint, coins, hairgrips or a stray sock
Drain hose kinked, crushed behind the machine or pushed too far down the standpipe
Blockage in the sink trap or standpipe the hose drains into, so the water backs up
Drain pump failing or jammed by debris that has got past the filter
Frozen drain hose on machines in a garage or outhouse in cold weather

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the machine off at the wall before touching anything, and let the water cool if you've run a hot wash
Clean out the pump filter behind the flap at the bottom front — expect water, so have a shallow tray and towels ready
Look behind the machine and make sure the drain hose isn't kinked, trapped or squashed against the wall
Check the sink trap or standpipe the hose feeds into isn't blocked or slow-draining
In cold weather, check the drain hose isn't frozen
Once cleared, power back on and run a Spin programme (or hold Start/Pause for about three seconds) to clear the fault and pump out
