Stop using it for now. Carrying on with this fault risks further damage or a leak. Switch it off at the wall until it has been looked at.

What E04 actually means

The machine has asked for water, waited about 12 minutes, and still hasn't filled enough to carry on, so it has stopped and flagged a fill fault.

Teknix washer dryers monitor how much water is in the drum during filling. If the expected level isn't reached inside roughly 12 minutes of the valve being open, the cycle is halted and E04 is shown rather than letting the heater and drum run on a dry or part-filled load. You'll normally see it early on, before the drum starts properly turning, with little or no water visible in the glass.

What E04 looks like on a Teknix washer dryer

Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Teknix washer dryer, E04 usually shows up as one or more of these:

  • Not filling with water
  • No water going in
  • Takes for ever to fill
  • Stops right at the start of the cycle
  • Not drying
  • Blowing cold air
  • Clothes still damp at the end
  • Takes hours to dry

Recognise any of those? That is this fault, and the rest of this page explains what causes it and what you can check yourself.

What usually causes it

  • Water tap behind or beneath the machine turned off or only part open
  • Fill hose kinked, trapped or crushed against the wall or units
  • Blocked filter screen in the fill hose connection, or low mains pressure
  • Faulty water inlet valve not opening when told to
  • Pressure sensing system misreading the level, so the machine never sees the water it has taken in

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

  1. Check the cold tap feeding the machine is fully open — not half turned.
  2. Run the kitchen tap to confirm you have normal mains pressure and the supply hasn't been isolated.
  3. Look along the fill hose for kinks or sharp bends, particularly where the machine has been pushed back into place.
  4. Cancel the programme, switch off at the wall for a minute, then restart — if the fill was interrupted by a brief supply problem it may run through normally.

Which Teknix models show E04

E04 means the same thing on all 4 of these models. If yours is not listed, the explanation above still applies — the code is set by the control board, not the model number.

Common questions about Teknix E04

What does E04 mean on a Teknix washer dryer?

Can I fix Teknix E04 myself?

There are 4 checks you can safely do yourself first.

This sometimes clears with those checks. If it comes back, it needs looking at properly.
