What is actually happening
A motor that runs while the drum stands still is almost always a snapped drive belt — the belt is a thin band that wraps the whole drum, and when it goes the motor spins freely with nothing to drive. The easy confirmation is that the drum will turn far too freely by hand, with none of the usual resistance.
The ElectriQ fault codes that point at this
A ElectriQ tumble dryer will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to drum not turning:
- E02 — The machine has asked for water and not received enough of it in the time allowed, so it has stopped and put E02 on the display.
- E03 — The machine can't get rid of the water — it has either failed to drain or drained far too slowly, so it has stopped and put E03 on the display.
- E12 — The machine has sensed too much water in the drum, pumped it out and stopped as a safety measure.
- E37 — The sensor that measures the temperature of the air being drawn in for drying has stopped giving the control board a sensible reading, so the machine halts the drying side of the cycle.
- E38 — The dryer has stopped because the temperature sensor at the exhaust outlet isn't reporting any change in temperature, so the machine can no longer tell how hot the air leaving the drum is.
- E50 — The board that drives the drum motor has spotted something it doesn't like — a bad voltage, too much current, or a motor it can't get a proper speed signal from — so it has shut the cycle down.
- E61 — The control board has lost the signal that tells it how fast the drum motor is turning, so it has shut the cycle down.
- E62 — The drum motor is spinning faster than the machine asked it to, so the control board shuts everything down as a safety measure.

The usual causes on a ElectriQ tumble dryer
- A snapped or slipped drive belt
- A failed drum bearing or worn support rollers, which can seize the drum
- A failed motor or motor capacitor
- An item jammed between the drum and the casing
