What is actually happening
A washer dryer dries by condensing moisture against a flow of cold water rather than venting it, so drying depends on both the heater and the cold water supply working. Lint has nowhere to go in a machine that has no filter you can reach, so it collects internally — and on some makes that shows up as a specific fault code rather than simply poor drying.
The Miele fault codes that point at this
A Miele washer dryer will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to not drying:
- F00 — There is no fault stored in the machine's memory — F00 is the "nothing recorded" reading, not a breakdown.
- F01 — The machine has lost a sensible reading from the temperature sensor that watches the water, and has stopped rather than heat blind.
- F15 — The machine has called for hot water and not received enough of it through the hot fill hose.
- F29 — The machine has decided the steam heater isn't doing anything, so it has stopped the programme rather than carry on without it.
- F39 — The machine's control and display board has reported a fault in itself, so it stops rather than carry on with a cycle it can't reliably manage.
- F41 — The machine's control board has lost or corrupted the settings stored in its memory, so it won't run a programme.
- F43 — The machine's control board hasn't been told which model it's fitted to, so it won't run any programme until that setting is entered.
- F63 — The washer dryer has lost proper control of the unit that decides where incoming water goes inside the machine, so it has stopped rather than carry on filling.

The usual causes on a Miele washer dryer
- Internal lint build-up restricting airflow, which no accessible filter catches
- A failed drying element or heat pump, depending on the model
- A failed NTC sensor in the drying circuit, often reported as a code
- A restricted cold water feed, so the condenser cannot condense
- Loading past the drying capacity, which is always well below the wash capacity
What you can safely check yourself
- Check the drying load size against the manual — it is usually about half the wash load, and overloading is the most common cause of all
- Note any code shown during the dry cycle, which identifies it precisely
- Check the cold tap is fully open
