What is actually happening
Genuinely dead is usually a supply problem rather than the machine. Before anything else it is worth proving the socket, because a tripped RCD or a failed plug fuse accounts for a good share of these. Where the supply is proven good, the fault is normally the mains filter, the on/off switch or the control board.
The Miele fault codes that point at this
A Miele washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to will not turn on:
- F00 — F00 on a Miele washer means the machine has no fault stored — nothing has actually been logged against it.
- F01 — The machine has decided the temperature sensor reading is impossible, so it has stopped rather than risk heating the water blind.
- F15 — The machine isn't getting enough hot water in through its hot fill hose, so it has stopped the cycle.
- F29 — The steam heater in your Miele washing machine isn't working, so the machine has stopped the programme rather than carry on without steam.
- F39 — The machine's control and display electronics have reported a fault in themselves, so it has stopped rather than carry on.
- F41 — The machine's control board has lost or corrupted the settings stored in its memory, so it won't run a programme.
- F43 — The machine's control board doesn't know which model it is, so it won't run any programme until that information is loaded back in.
- F53 — The machine has lost the signal that tells it how fast the drum is turning, so it stops rather than spin blind.

The usual causes on a Miele washing machine

- Check the plug fuse
- If the RCD trips again the moment the machine is switched on, stop and leave it off — that is an electrical fault, not a nuisance trip
