What is actually happening
A washer dryer dries by condensing moisture against a flow of cold water rather than venting it, so drying depends on both the heater and the cold water supply working. Lint has nowhere to go in a machine that has no filter you can reach, so it collects internally — and on some makes that shows up as a specific fault code rather than simply poor drying.
The Montpellier fault codes that point at this

- E01 — The machine can't confirm the door is shut and locked, so it won't start or carry on.
- E02 — The machine hasn't taken in enough water in the time it expects, so it has halted the cycle.

- E08 — The control board has lost proper control of the drum motor — the switching device on the board that feeds power to the motor has failed, so the machine stops rather than risk running the motor unchecked.
- E09 — The machine has decided the electricity reaching it is outside the range it will work with, so it has stopped the programme rather than run on a bad supply.
