What E00 actually means
The fridge freezer has lost a reliable reading from one of its temperature sensors, so it can no longer control cooling properly in that compartment.
On the electriQ side-by-side no-frost models, the display flashes this code on the zone that has the problem \u2014 so whether it appears on the fridge side or the freezer side tells you which sensor the control board has stopped trusting. Without a valid temperature reading the appliance can't regulate that compartment, so it either runs on a fixed default pattern or stops cooling normally. In practice you'll often see the code before you notice any change in food temperature, so it's worth checking your food while sorting the fault.
What usually causes it
- A failed temperature sensor in the fridge or freezer compartment
- A damaged or chafed sensor wire, common at the hinge side on side-by-side cabinets
- A loose or corroded sensor plug behind the interior lining
- A fault on the main control board misreading the sensor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the appliance off at the socket for a minute and back on \u2014 an occasional glitch will clear
- Note which side of the display the code is flashing on, fridge or freezer, and tell the engineer
- Check the door is closing and sealing fully, and that nothing is jamming the seal
- Check food in both compartments for signs of thawing or spoiling
