ElectriQ E03 fridge freezer: what it means & what to check

What E03 actually means

The wine cooler has lost the signal from its defrost sensor hough it were broicuit — and it shuts the cooling down rather than run blind.

On these electriQ dual zone wine coolers the control board watches a defrost sensor as well as the two cabinet temperature sensors. E03 is the board reporting an open circuit on that defrost sensor — either the sensor itself has failed or its connection to the board has broken, so no reading is getting through. Because the cooler can no longer tell when it needs to defrost, it flags the fault and stops normal temperature control, which is why bottles start drifting warm.

What usually causes it

The defrost sensor itself has failed
A loose or corroded plug where the sensor connects to the control board
A broken or chafed sensor lead inside the cabinet
A fault on the control board so it cannot read the sensor

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Switch the cooler off at the wall, leave it a minute, then power it back up — an occasional read error will clear and not return
Check the cooler isn't jammed hard against a wall or built in without the ventilation gap, as heat build-up can bring on sensor faults
Make sure the door is closing fully and the seal is sitting flat all the way round, so the cabinet isn't fighting constant warm air
