Servis F01 dishwasher: what it means & what to check

What F01 actually means

The dishwasher has decided there is too much water inside it, or water where there shouldn't be, and it has shut the wash down to stop your kitchen flooding.

Servis dishwashers carry an anti-flood system that trips as soon as the level in the tub goes past its safe point or water is detected in the base tray. When it trips you get F01 on the display, the wash stops wherever it was, and the drain pump will often keep running on its own to empty the machine. The right course for this one is blunt: turn the machine off, close the water tap and get it looked at.

What F01 looks like on a Servis dishwasher

Door won't lock or click shut

What usually causes it

A leak inside the machine — usually the tub, a hose joint or the door seal letting water into the base
Water continuing to fill when it should have stopped, so the level rises too far (faulty fill valve or level sensing)
Detergent overdosing or the wrong product, creating enough foam to fool the level system
A blocked or badly fitted drain hose leaving water in the tub that has nowhere to go
A fault on the control board misreading the level or float signal

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the dishwasher off at the wall socket and close the water tap feeding it — do this first, before anything else
Once it is isolated, mop out any standing water in the base of the tub with a cloth or sponge
Check the drain hose behind the machine is not kinked, crushed or pushed too far into the standpipe
Clean the mesh and coarse filters in the bottom of the tub, and check the standpipe or sink trap spigot is not blocked
If you have been using a lot of washing-up liquid or too much detergent, stop — foam can trip the overflow alarm
