What F09 actually means
The valve that switches the water between the upper and lower spray arms isn't reaching the position the dishwasher expects, so the machine stops the cycle.
Servis dishwashers of this type send water to the top basket and the bottom basket in turn, using a motorised diverter inside the sump. The control board checks that the diverter has actually moved to the position it asked for, and if the feedback doesn't match it flags the fault and abandons the programme — often part-way through, with water still in the machine. Servis's own documents describe this as a divisor (diverter) position error and refer it straight to an engineer, which tells you it is a component and wiring matter rather than something an owner has done wrong.
What F09 looks like on a Servis dishwasher
Most people find this page having searched for what the machine is doing rather than the code itself. On a Servis dishwasher, F09 usually shows up as one or more of these:
- Dishwasher not draining
- Water left in the tub at the end of the cycle
- Stops mid-cycle full of water
- Standing water in the bottom

What usually causes it
- The diverter motor or its position switch has failed
- Debris or a fragment of broken glass jamming the diverter inside the sump
- A loose or corroded connection to the diverter on the wiring loom
- A control board that is no longer reading the position feedback correctly
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the dishwasher off at the wall for a minute, then switch back on and restart a programme — an occasional one-off reading will clear.
- Take out the filter assembly in the base, rinse it under the tap and check nothing solid (glass, stones from fruit, cocktail sticks) has found its way into the sump area.
- Spin both spray arms by hand to confirm they turn freely and the jets aren't blocked.
- Note whether the fault appears at the same point in every cycle — that's useful information for the engineer.
