What is actually happening
This is different from a machine that will not spin: here the drum does not move at all, even at slow wash speed. On a belt-driven machine the belt has almost always come off or snapped, and the giveaway is that the motor can be heard running with nothing happening. On a direct-drive machine there is no belt, so the fault is the motor or its control.
The Blomberg fault codes that point at this
A Blomberg washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to drum not turning:
- E04 — The control board has lost control of the water inlet valve — the machine can keep filling with water even when it shouldn't be, so it stops the programme.
- E05 — The machine cannot get the water out — the drain pump either isn't turning or isn't being driven by the control board.
- E06 — The circuit on the main control board that switches power to the drum motor has failed, so the machine has stopped rather than risk the drum running out of control.
- E07 — The machine can't tell how much water is in the drum, so it stops rather than risk overfilling.
- E09 — The machine cannot lock the door, so it refuses to start the wash.
- E11 — The machine has lost the electrical connection it needs to drive or monitor the drum motor, so the drum won't turn.
- E12 — The machine has found water where it shouldn't be — the level has risen to the point the anti-flood (aquastop) safety trips, so it has shut the wash down.
- E13 — The control board has lost its communication link with the motor — the wiring between them has gone open circuit, so the machine can't drive the drum properly.

The usual causes on a Blomberg washing machine
- A snapped or dislodged drive belt
- Worn motor carbon brushes, leaving too little power to turn a loaded drum
- A seized drum bearing
- A failed motor or motor control board on direct-drive machines
- An item jammed between the inner and outer drum
