What is actually happening
The machine fills, then holds the cycle while the element brings the water up to the selected temperature. If the element has failed open-circuit the temperature never rises, so the machine either waits indefinitely, jumps to the next stage with cold water, or stops with a heater fault code. Clothes come out looking washed but not clean, and greasy marks stay put.
The Blomberg fault codes that point at this
A Blomberg washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to not heating the water:
- E01 — The machine can't read the water temperature — the sensor that tells it how hot the water is has gone faulty or lost its connection.
- E02 — The machine can't get a signal through its heating element, so it has stopped trying to heat the water.
- E03 — The control board has spotted that the heating element is staying switched on when it shouldn't be, so the machine stops heating altogether to protect you and the load.
- E28 — The control board isn't getting the confirmation signal that the door is locked, so the machine refuses to start or fill.
- E29 — The machine has measured the mains electricity coming into it and found it outside the range it needs to run properly, so it has halted the programme.
- E32 — The temperature sensor in the drying section is giving a reading the machine doesn't trust, so it won't run the drying part of the cycle properly.
- F01 — The machine has lost a sensible reading from its water temperature sensor, or the heating circuit it checks alongside it, so it stops rather than trying to heat the wash.
- F02 — The machine has lost the electrical connection to its heating element, so it can't warm the water.

The usual causes on a Blomberg washing machine
