What is actually happening

The machine opens a valve at the back to fill, and watches the pressure system to know when it has enough. No water at all usually means the supply, the valve or a blocked inlet filter. Water that fills and immediately drains away points at the drain hose being fitted too low, siphoning the water straight back out.

The Hisense fault codes that point at this

A Hisense washing machine will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to not filling with water:

• F01 — The machine isn't getting enough water in the time it expects, so it has stopped the cycle.
• F02 — The machine has detected too much water inside the drum and stopped to avoid overflowing.
• F06 — The machine's control electronics have flagged a fault and stopped the wash — it can also be triggered by too much foam or water where it shouldn't be.
• F13 — The machine can't confirm the door is properly locked shut, so it won't start the wash.
• F21 — The control panel you press the buttons on has lost contact with the main power board inside the machine, so the wash stops.
• F23 — The washing machine's control electronics have reported a fault and stopped the cycle.
• F24 — There's too much water, or too much foam, inside the machine, so it has stopped the cycle to avoid flooding.

The usual causes on a Hisense washing machine

• The inlet tap turned off, or a kinked fill hose
• A blocked filter gauze in the inlet hose connection — it clogs with grit from the mains
• A failed water inlet valve
• A blocked or disconnected pressure chamber hose, so the machine misreads the level
