Electrolux C02 hob: what it means & what to check

What C02 actually means

The two processors inside the hob's power board have lost step with each other, so the hob shuts the affected cooking zone down rather than carry on.

On these induction hobs the power board runs more than one internal microprocessor, and they have to stay in sync for the board to control the induction coils safely. When the board's self-check finds they are out of step it reports this code on the display panel and stops driving the zone. It is an internal electronics fault, not something caused by the pan you put on it or the way you were cooking.

What C02 looks like on a Electrolux hob

What usually causes it

A fault developing on the hob's power board itself
Loss of communication between the power board and the control unit behind the knobs
A poor or disturbed connection on the board's internal plugs (BC01/BC02)
Heat build-up under the hob from blocked ventilation, upsetting the board
A mains supply disturbance that has left the board latched in fault

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or at the consumer unit for a minute, then restore power — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear and not return
Check nothing is blocking the ventilation gap around or beneath the hob, such as packing, foil or a drawer stuffed full underneath
Make a note of whether the code appears on one zone or all of them, and whether it comes up straight away or only after several minutes of cooking — that tells the engineer a lot
