Electrolux C06 hob: what it means & what to check

What C06 actually means

The hob has spotted a problem with the cooling fan that keeps its induction electronics from overheating, so it has shut the cooking zones down.

Induction hobs run a fan underneath the glass to cool the power electronics, and the control monitors that fan. When it doesn't turn, or turns too slowly because something is fouling it, the hob logs C06 and stops heating rather than let the power board cook itself. On these rotary-control induction models you'll usually see it after the hob has been running at higher settings for a while, sometimes with hot air and a change in fan noise beforehand.

What C06 looks like on a Electrolux hob

What usually causes it

Cooling fan blocked or clogged with dust and cooking grease
Airflow under the hob obstructed — usually by things stored in the cupboard or drawer beneath
Fan motor failed or seized
Fault on the power board that drives and monitors the fan

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall for a minute, then back on — if the fault was a one-off overheat it may clear
Empty the cupboard or drawer directly beneath the hob and make sure nothing is pressed up against the underside, blocking the air path
Check the hob has cooled fully before trying again, and that nothing is covering the glass while it runs
