What E04 actually means

The hob has lost the temperature sensor reading on one of its cooking zones, so it shuts that zone down rather than heat glass it can no longer monitor.

Each induction zone has a small temperature sensor (an NTC) sitting under the glass, which the power board uses to keep the coil and the glass within safe limits. On these Electrolux induction hobs, E04 means that sensor has gone open circuit or is reading nonsense on one zone — the board sees no valid temperature at all. Because it can't tell whether the glass is cold or dangerously hot, it refuses to power that zone; on some models the code appears first and then an 'E' shows over the affected zone a few seconds later.

What usually causes it

The temperature sensor under one zone has failed or gone open circuit
The sensor's plug has worked loose from the power board, often after previous work or heavy vibration
Heat damage to the sensor wiring after prolonged high-temperature use or a boil-over
A fault on the power board itself, so a good sensor is read as missing
On some hobs, out-of-date control software — Electrolux issued a bulletin covering an E4 fault together with the residual heat 'H' staying lit on a cold hob, cured by a software update

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or the isolating switch, leave it a minute, then switch back on — a one-off glitch will sometimes clear
Let the hob cool completely and try again; note which zone refuses to work, as that tells the engineer which sensor is involved
Check whether the residual heat 'H' symbol stays lit when the hob is stone cold, and mention it when you book — that combination points to the known software issue rather than a dead sensor
