What E05 actually means
The hob has decided the temperature sensor on one of its cooking zones is reading a short circuit, so it has shut that zone down.
Every induction zone has a sensor sitting against the coil under the glass that tells the electronics how hot things are getting. On these Electrolux induction hobs, E05 (shown as "E5" on the older one-digit displays) means that sensor has gone short circuit, and because the hob can no longer trust the temperature reading it refuses to power the zone rather than risk overheating the glass and the electronics. Usually the code appears in the display for one particular zone while the rest of the hob carries on working normally.
What E05 looks like on a Electrolux hob

What usually causes it
- Failed coil temperature sensor on the affected zone
- Damaged or chafed sensor wiring, or a corroded plug on the power board
- Heat damage after a pan has boiled dry or a zone has been run hard for a long time
- Moisture or spillage that has worked its way under the glass onto the sensor
- Less often, a fault on the power board itself that misreads the sensor
What you can safely check yourself
Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.
- Turn the hob off at the wall or the circuit breaker for about half a minute, then power it back up — a one-off glitch can clear
- Let the hob cool down completely and try the zone again; a genuinely hot hob can behave differently from a cold one
- Note which zone shows the code and whether the other zones still work — that tells the engineer straight away whether it is one sensor or something wider
- Keep the surface clear and dry, and avoid covering the hob with cloths or foil while you wait
