Electrolux C04 hob: what it means & what to check

What C04 actually means

The hob has decided the electricity reaching it isn't the frequency it expects, so it has shut the cooking zones down.

On these induction hobs the power board constantly monitors the incoming mains supply. If the frequency it reads falls outside the range it's built for, it stops heating and shows this code rather than risk running the induction coils on a supply it can't sync to. In practice the supply is usually fine and it's the board's own sensing circuit that has drifted or failed.

What C04 looks like on a Electrolux hob

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall or at its switched fuse point, leave it a minute, then switch back on — an occasional one-off reading will clear
Check whether other appliances in the kitchen are behaving oddly or the lights are flickering, which would point at the supply rather than the hob
If the hob is on a plug or isolator you can reach without removing anything, make sure it is fully switched on and not loose in its socket
