Electrolux C08 hob: what it means & what to check

What C08 actually means

The hob's power board has measured the electrical current coming into it as being outside the range it expects, so it has shut the cooking zones down and put a fault code on the display.

On these induction hobs the power board monitors the incoming mains current as well as the voltage. If the reading it takes is wrong, it stops driving the induction coils rather than carry on, and the two characters of the code flash alternately on the zone display. Electrolux's own service information for these rotary-control induction hobs points to the power board itself as the cause and calls for it to be replaced.

Faulty power board — the part that measures and switches the current to the coils
A current-sensing circuit on that board reading incorrectly

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall switch or isolator for a minute, then back on — occasionally the code clears and does not return
Check nothing has tripped at the consumer unit, and that the hob's circuit breaker is fully on
If the code comes straight back, leave the hob switched off at the isolator and book an engineer
