Electrolux E06 hob: what it means & what to check

What E06 actually means

The hob's internal electronics have lost proper communication with each other, so it shuts the affected cooking zone down.

On these induction hobs the power board that drives the coils contains more than one microprocessor, and they have to talk to each other constantly to control the zone. When that internal communication breaks down, the hob reports E06 in the display for the zone concerned and refuses to heat. It is an electronic fault inside the appliance rather than anything to do with the pan or the way you are using it.

What E06 looks like on a Electrolux hob

Not heating up
Takes ages to get to temperature
Cuts out part way through cooking

What usually causes it

A fault on the induction power board serving that zone
A fault on the control board behind the knobs or touch panel
A poor or disturbed connection between the boards inside the hob
Damage following a power surge or spike on the mains supply

What you can safely check yourself

Work through these in order. Anything beyond this — panels off, testing parts, anything to do with the wiring — is an engineer's job, and not one to attempt with the machine plugged in.

Turn the hob off at the wall (or at the fuse box switch) for a minute, then power it back up — an occasional one-off communication glitch will clear
Note which zone or zones show the code, and whether it appears straight away or only under load; that saves the engineer diagnostic time
