What is actually happening
Induction hobs will not heat a pan that is not magnetic, so a pan that suddenly stopped working is worth checking with a fridge magnet before anything else. Beyond that, induction faults are usually electronic: the zones talk to a control board, and a communication error will take out one zone or the whole hob and show a code such as E9 or 61.
The Electrolux fault codes that point at this
A Electrolux induction hob will usually tell you what it thinks is wrong before anyone opens it up. These are the codes we hold for this make that relate to not working:
- C01 — The hob's electronics have spotted a mismatch between the current it thinks it is drawing from the mains and the current actually flowing through the power stage that drives the induction coils, so it shuts the affected zone down.
- C02 — The two processors inside the hob's power board have lost step with each other, so the hob shuts the affected cooking zone down rather than carry on.
- C03 — The hob has measured the incoming mains voltage as too low and has shut the cooking zones down to protect itself.
- C04 — The hob has decided the electricity reaching it isn't the frequency it expects, so it has shut the cooking zones down.
- C05 — The hob has spotted that one of its main power relays isn't releasing properly, so it has shut the cooking zones down rather than risk leaving power switched on.
- C06 — The hob has spotted a problem with the cooling fan that keeps its induction electronics from overheating, so it has shut the cooking zones down.
- C07 — The hob has measured a mains supply voltage outside the range it will run on, so it has shut the cooking zones down rather than carry on.
- C08 — The hob's power board has measured the electrical current coming into it as being outside the range it expects, so it has shut the cooking zones down and put a fault code on the display.
If yours is showing one of those, that is a much shorter conversation than a general fault — tell us the code when you book and the engineer can often carry the part.
The usual causes on a Electrolux induction hob
- A pan that is not induction-compatible, or too small for the zone
- A communication fault between the touch control and the power board
- A failed induction coil or power module for one zone
- Overheating, where the hob shuts a zone down to protect itself
- Water or a spillage sitting on the touch controls
What you can safely check yourself
- Hold a fridge magnet to the base of the pan — if it does not stick, the hob cannot heat it
- Wipe the touch panel completely dry; standing liquid locks the controls out
- Note any code shown and which zones are affected
- Switch off at the isolator for five minutes to clear a lockout
